Morphogenesis of Mandibular Dental Arch Shape in Human Embryos
نویسنده
چکیده
Changes in shape of the mandibular dental arch were demonstrated in a developmentally representative sample of human embryos. Each reconstructed arch was described in terms of a conformance to a reference geometric curve; ie, catenary. Cross-sectional sample trends showed that the initial dental lamina is anteroposteriorly flattened during the sixth week and begins a progressive elongation and conformance to the catenary curve in 8 1,1⁄2 -week embryos.

A catenary analysis of the maxillary dental arch during human embryogenesis.
Human embryos aged six and one-half through 12 weeks were studied to determine the morphological changes in shape of the maxillary dental arch during this early developmental period. Age was determined by crown-rump lengths using the table of Patten ('53). When compared to a reference catenary curve, the embryonic dental arch exhibited several time-linked and directional changes in shape. First...
متن کاملAnalysis of dimensions and shapes of maxillary and mandibular dental arch in Korean young adults
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to investigate dental arch dimensions and to classify arch shape in Korean young adults. MATERIALS AND METHODS The sample included 50 Koreans with age ranging from 24 to 32 years. Maxillary and mandibular casts were fabricated using irreversible hydrocolloid and type III dental stones. Incisor-canine distance, incisor-1st molar distance, incisor-2nd molar dis...

OBJECTIVE To determine and compare the frequency distribution of various arch shapes in ethnic Malays and Malaysian Aborigines in Peninsular Malaysia and to investigate the morphological differences of arch form between these two ethnic groups. METHODS We examined 120 ethnic Malay study models (60 maxillary, 60 mandibular) and 129 Malaysian Aboriginal study models (66 maxillary, 63 mandibular...
متن کاملPrx1 and Prx2 are upstream regulators of sonic hedgehog and control cell proliferation during mandibular arch morphogenesis.
The aristaless-related homeobox genes Prx1 and Prx2 are required for correct skeletogenesis in many structures. Mice that lack both Prx1 and Prx2 functions display reduction or absence of skeletal elements in the skull, face, limbs and vertebral column. A striking phenotype is found in the lower jaw, which shows loss of midline structures, and the presence of a single, medially located incisor....
متن کاملCorrelation between maxillary central incisor crown morphology and mandibular dental arch form in normal occlusion subjects.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between the morphology of the mandibular dental arch and the maxillary central incisor crown. Cast models from 51 Caucasian individuals, older than 15 years, with optimal occlusion, no previous orthodontic treatment, featuring 4 of the 6 keys to normal occlusion by Andrews (the first being mandatory) were observed. The models were digitalize...
